There are so many different things that can cause skin irritation: change of weather, change of makeup, increase in stress, allergic reactions, etc. Skin irritation can leave us feeling just that – irritated. Your entire day can be affected when you are dealing with skin issues, so we wanted to give you a few pointers on how to ease that irritation.
There are countless reasons for itchy skin, so not all of these tips will 100% work on everyone; however, they have been known to soothe itchiness.
We are constantly pushing the moisturizer, and for a good reason. Be sure to choose a moisturizer that is meant for itchy and/or dry skin.
There are cooling agents such as calamine that can help ease the itch. “You could also place your moisturizer in the refrigerator to help achieve this cooling effect” (AAD).
Scratching might feel good for point-five seconds, then it’s back to irritation. When you scratch you are only making matters worse. Avoid the itch.
Cool, wet compresses can help to ease the itchiness, but bear in mind that putting straight water onto the skin later calls for a good moisturizing treatment afterwards.
We know this isn’t always easy, but when your skin is irritated, being faced with stressful situations can actually make it worse!
AVOID MAJOR TEMP CHANGES:
Changes in temperature can be the main cause of skin irritation, so if you are having skin issues, avoid even further aggravating it by steering clear of extremely hot or cold temperatures.
Itchiness is not a fun thing for anyone to deal with, and we know the frustration that can come with it. Here are some other things/products you can try:
– Aquaphor: Not only is Aquaphor Advanced Therapy Healing Ointment decently priced, but it contains amazing moisturizing properties. It can be used sparingly while still providing all of the moisturizing benefits. It is thicker, but there is no sticky feeling after you apply it.
– CeraVe: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream for Normal to dry Skin provides 24-hour hydration and actually helps to restore the protective skin barrier. You can apply this as often as needed. CeraVe has also formulated moisturizers to be used before bed or in the morning, so you choose!
– Biotherm Homme: Biotherm Homme Aquapower Oligo – Thermal Care Ultra Moisturizing is slightly more expensive than the previous two products listed, but it’s is unique, in that it is a moisturizing fresh gel. It helps to moisturize AND firm skin.
Again, let us clarify, as we do in all of our articles, that the best thing you can do for your skin is research the products you want to use before making them a part of your routine.
