As much joy and coziness as the cold season brings: hot chocolate, cozy fires, and comfy oversized sweaters, it also brings uncomfortable dryness to the skin. For some people, the problem is worse than some rosy cheeks. A general tight, dry feeling may occur, or it can be more severe, resulting in flaking, cracking, and possibly eczema.
A small change in your skincare routine can help avoid dry skin irritation caused by the cold weather. We have done our research to provide you with some simple tips to help:
1. MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE, MOISTURIZE!!
Hydration is extremely important. Lindsay Cortez, the owner of Lovely Lane Esthetics, says, “During the dry winter months, you should maintain a more hydrating skincare regimen.” Immediately after you wash your face, it’s beneficial to apply your moisturizer. Applying moisture to damp skin helps seal in the moisture into the skin. It’s also important you find a moisturizer that is perfect for you. Some over-the-counter products have petroleum-based ingredients that can cause dryer skin. An oil-based solution is more likely to help your skin retain moisture in the winter and restore its natural moisture barrier. Finding something that is made with natural and hydrating ingredients will benefit your skin greatly. Natural ingredients like lavender, chamomile, jojoba help soothe dry, itchy skin.
2. EXFOLIATE
The harsh winter weather tends to make people stray away from “harsher” products like exfoliants thinking it will further irritate their skin. However, exfoliating in the winter can be very beneficial. Our skin is covered in dead cells– if we don’t scrub off those dead skin cells, the moisture cannot get in. Find a quality exfoliant and apply it to your face, body, hands, and lips. Then, immediately follow up with a moisturizer to replenish moisture.
3. AVOID TOXINS AND IRRITANTS
If you have existing skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis, you have to avoid certain allergens and irritants that might trigger a flare-up. Skin in the winter is already fragile, so adding toxins and low-quality ingredients will worsen your likeliness for dry, irritated skin.

All skin types are different, some people need more aggressive and frequent regimens, while some benefit from not exposing their skin to so many types of products. It’s best to find what is best for you and your skin. One common benefit is to use products with high quality ingredients; At Dynamic Blending we only use quality ingredients for your custom formula.
